How Dollop works

Three things that make it disappear into your day.

1

Lives in your notch.

Always there. Click, hold, ask, record, without leaving what you're doing.

2

Speaks your apps.

Drops clean text into anything you're typing in. Notes, Slack, browsers, code editors.

3

Privacy first.

Runs on local models on your Mac. Parakeet, Qwen, Apple Foundation Models. Your voice never leaves the device.

  • How does Dollop work?

Dollop lives in your Mac's notch. Hold ⌥ Space to dictate into any text field, press ⌃ S to ask, ⌃ R to record a meeting. Everything happens on-device.

  • Do I need to install anything other than the app?

No. Dollop ships everything in one app: the transcription model, the chat model, the menu-bar integration. Download once and you're set.

  • Is my data private?

Every transcription and chat runs on local models on your Mac. Your voice never leaves the device. There's no cloud routing, no frontier-model fallback, no analytics.

  • What models does Dollop use?

Parakeet or Qwen for on-device transcription. For chat, you can route through Claude Code or Apple Foundation Models. We don't ship frontier-model cloud calls.

  • Does Dollop run offline?

Yes. Dictation runs on Parakeet or Qwen locally. Chat through Apple Foundation Models is fully local too. Claude Code talks to its own agent, so that path wants a connection.

  • Where are my recordings stored?

Locally, in ~/Library/Application Support/Dollop/Meetings. Drag any recording out as audio or markdown. They stay on disk until you delete them.

  • What macOS version is required?

macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple Silicon. The notch UI specifically requires a MacBook Pro M2+ or M3+.

  • Can I use Dollop while in Zoom, Slack, or Discord?

Yes. Dictation pastes into the active text field of any app. Meeting recording captures both your mic and system audio, so calls in Zoom, Slack, or Discord all transcribe end-to-end.

  • How is this different from Apple's built-in dictation?

Apple's dictation is one-shot voice-to-text. Dollop adds a small cleanup pass (punctuation, casing, paragraphing), persistent recent dictations, AI chat, meeting recording with summaries, and works without leaving the active app.
